Denotation and connation - An idea or feeling that a word invokes for a person in addition to its literal or primary meaning.
iconography - The visual images, symbols, or modes of representation collectively associated with a person, cult, or movement.
linear -Arranged in or extending along a straight or nearly straight line: "linear arrangements" Soaps is where a film goes forward in time. or films that are based in the future.The time zones go in chronological order. This follow a order.
non linear - is where a film don't go in chronological order, or in other ways where the narrative doesn't follow the direct causality pattern of the events featured, such as parallel distinctive plot lines,in i. They have this paper for magazine who are in the future and comic books.
An Open Narrative structure is usually found in television series, in particular, ongoing soap operas such as EastEnders/Neighbours. In these narratives, the story has no apparent beginning, middle or end.An idea or feeling that a word invokes for a person in addition to its literal or primary meaning. In soaps this is known as on going, story line or to a closure. or crreating a clif hanger to an audience. The soap carried on and this creates the cliff hanger. THis can happen in films as well when the directors want to film sequesl of the film. This is due to the film popularaty and how many sales the film makes. The advantage of this is that it carries on the story which people will want to watch. However the disavatnage of this is that people can forget about the storyline or the actors after some time. For example they have open narratives in eastenders for the sotryline. In print they use open narratives for comic books. They use this to carry on the storylne so they use this for print publication. Cartoon series in newspaper as serial as well on on going biographies are many forms of open narrative in print publication. Also Batman has an an open narratives and also would be another example of an open narrative
A Closed Narrative structure is most commonly found in movies. As mentioned before, movies generally exist as one unique story, and contain a beginning, middle and an ending. In soaps they use this to have a ending to a storyline. Soaps have this since they have to start new storyline to keep the viewers interested. the more new story lines the viewers can be interested than they'll be increasing. Also this will increase the viewers. Films have closed narratives so that wont be known that there would be another sequels to the film. They have closed narratives such as one of stories. so for magazine having articles would be a closed narratives. This is because they don't carry on and dont go on for a long time. For example in coronation street as they have one basic storyline and keep on going on.
realism - The attitude or practice of accepting a situation as it is and being prepared to deal with it accordingly: "a new mood of realism"
realist - a philosopher who believes that universals are real and exist independently of anyone thinking of them. They refer to the subject objects as they are considered in third persons. Also in realism storyline in the soaps to explore real issue to the viewers. They would realism articles in the magazine to describe the article. For example in eastenders they have realism storyline for the viewers to explain real life issue that people would relate to. In print they have this to such as articles to help the viewers understand or they can relate to. In eastenders they have a realism storyline of a girls alcohol storylien. This shows realism and man people can realte to drinking a certain amount.
series -A number of things, events, or people of a similar kind or related nature coming one after another: "a series of lectures". Get grouped into season. An example of this would be waterlood road. this is when they start and stop again. This happens due to how views are going to watch the programme. They have magazine of series so they spread the article and stories as much as they can. They have a series of magazine to explore different stories.
serial - A story or play appearing in regular installments on television or radio or in a magazine or newspaper. For example in eastenders storyline. Since they go on for a long time. Magazine have this for a series. They have long story lines so soaps have this to get the viewer interested in the storyline.

Signs - An object, quality, or event whose presence or occurrence indicates the probable presence or occurrence of something else. soaps have this to give a sign on whats going on in the storyline. Anti realist - anti-realism is used to describe any position involving either the denial of an objective reality or the denial that verification-transcendent statements are either true or false. There isn't a 5 story robber duck so it shows that the advert is anti realism. Its showing an exaggeration in the advert with the 5 story rubber duck and the strict parent. .In print this would be example of an anti realism since its not inreality. Its someone one idea of a fantasy.
